Our Story

What inspired the bakery?

Reed Family Baking is a black-owned bakery inspired by John Stephens Reed. The owner's father was classically trained in culinary arts. Over the years he taught his son John Stephens Willie Reed (JR) how to cook and bake as they often catered events for family and friends. JR went on to start the bakery as he wanted to combine his talents in the kitchen with his entrepreneurial spirit. Currently operating out of his home JR looks to expand the bakery and continue on his father's legacy with a new school flair.

What is your signature bake?

My signature bake is cookies n cream cookies. As an Oreo lover, I wanted to create a cookie that tasted like my favorite ice cream. These cookies have the perfect combination of crunch and creaminess by adding semi crushed Oreos and white chocolate to the batter, achieving the goal of creating ice cream in the form of a cookie. Using the foundation of this recipe I have perfected 7 other cookie recipes by exchanging ingredients from the cookies n cream cookie.

How long have you been baking?

As a chef’s son, I found myself in the kitchen starting at the age of eight. He taught me how to make family dishes and even how to create our own signature recipes. As I got older my dad gave me more responsibility and I sought new challenges. As my knowledge grew, we began to cater events for friends, coworkers, family and others. My passion for baking continued after college as a stress reliever from work. Now 27, I find myself preparing to open a bakery.

What is your best baking secret that you're willing to share?

Getting the perfect cookie is difficult. There are countless trials when you start a new recipe. You need your basic ingredients: sugar, flour, butter and extract measurements, along with the flavor you want to achieve. A tactic I found most beneficial is staying true to those core ingredients when trying new flavors. Once you find a foundation for the cookies, you can find ways to manipulate the flavors. Don't get discouraged if the cookie doesn't turn out right the first few times. Keep going!

Do you have (CBD or THC) Infused desserts?

At this time we “DO NOT” infuse our desserts, one of the core values instilled in our owners upbringing was not to use any drugs. In honor of this belief and core value we respect the wishes of John Reed Sr. for this brand.
